Weapon upgrade
I have made more trips to the underworld than I can count trying for a gold (or at least purple) storm bow. All I ever get is white ones. Just out of curiosity I took the string from a gold bow drop and added it to a white storm bow and it turned blue. Do all weapons jump to the next color when adding enchants or inscribing ? btw - if anyone has a gold or purple storm bow gathering dust in storage, let me know if you would like to sell it. Thanks.

White weapons are common and non magical. Adding a mod makes it magical. Weapons that are magical and common are blue. You can't change a drop to or from purple or gold (or green) because you would need to change the classification of the drop type which is only determined when the item drops.

Since Marty answered, I guess I'll go into the stormbow bit.
I have better luck with getting them in Tomb of Primeval Kings. Also, you always get drops when you aren't trying to get them. I tried for a q9 stormbow everyday, 4 to 5 hours, for 3 weeks...nothing (and by nothing I mean 50 or so grape strombows q10-12). Two days later I go in to show a guildie a farming build and I get a max gold q9 Stormbow. |

I tried to solo the Tomb of Primeval Kings once, it was a disaster, seemed much tougher than the Underworld. I'll give it another chance and see

Gold storm bow finally dropped in UW from a Skeleton of Dhuum...
Silencing Storm Bow of Defense Piercing Dmg 15-28 (Q9 marksmanship) Damage +15% Armor -10 (while attacking) Lengthens Dazed duration on foes by 33% (stacking) Armor +5 I'm ecstatic Let me know if you think I'd be better off with a diff string.... My ranger is new so she has no specific default build yet. Stacking mean I can add a string and still keep dazed ?? |

For most Rangers in PvE, I think the standard string (prefix) is either Sundering (20% armor penetration 20% of the time), Zealous (-1 energy regeneration, 1 energy gain on hit), or Vampiric (-1 health degeneration, 5 life steal on hit). The most common handle (suffix) is Fortitude (+30 health). Adding anything new will replace the old one, with no risk of breaking the item. Congrats on your find . |

I addition to the above, the 'stacking' means the 33% increase in dazed duration will stack with other dazed lengthening things.
